Key IHSS Forms
SOC 2 — Provider Enrollment
The form used when a new provider enrolls in the IHSS program. Required before you can be assigned to a recipient or receive payment.
SOC 426 — Recipient Designation of Provider
Allows an IHSS recipient to designate you as their provider. Both the recipient and provider must sign before you can work and be paid.
SOC 840 — Overtime Exemption
Application for the 90-hour weekly overtime exemption for live-in providers. Must be approved by the county before the higher cap applies to your schedule.
Understanding Your Pay
IHSS provider wages are set at the county level, not the state level. Each of California's 58 counties negotiates its own wage rates, which is why pay can vary significantly depending on where you work. Rates are updated periodically — check the CDSS pay rate table for the most current figures.

Travel Time Entitlement
If you work for two or more IHSS recipients, you are entitled to travel time pay for the time spent traveling directly between recipients in the same day. The maximum reimbursable travel time is 7 hours per week. Travel time is paid at your straight-time rate and counts toward your weekly hour cap and overtime threshold. Many bi-recipient providers are unaware of this entitlement and never claim it.
